CROTON FALLS

Croton Falls, R. J. Xander

FIVE STARS!

My initial response to this book was to forget I was reading at all because I was so immersed in its gritty realism. The contrast between the bleak Subterranean Network and the cold, political machinations of the Diadem was instantly relatable and intriguing. I knew right away this was going to be a page-turner.

Croton Falls is a sprawling science fiction epic with intricate world-building and complex political intrigue. It explores themes of class struggle, environmental collapse, and what it means to be human. Readers who enjoy morally complex characters forced to make impossible choices and high-stakes survival scenarios will find the book particularly engaging.

The story unfolds across several decaying settings: the Warren (a bleak, subterranean network two kilometers beneath the Earth's surface), the Diadem, or the “crown" (a once-magnificent ring-shaped space station in low-Earth orbit), and the planet's surface (a desolate, irradiated wasteland of sand and ruins). Finally, the Empyrean, an advanced modular starship, becomes the central, contested setting (humanity's last ark or potential tomb).

I can't recommend this book enough, but be ready for an intense experience with a twist that will leave you speechless.
